Bridge Work: The $530,000 Carpenter Road bridge project over I-94 in Pittsfield Township is nearing completion. The northern ramp to the bridge (left) is almost completed while the southern ramp (right) remains to be done. Traffic is heavy on the westbound lanes of I-94 as motorists weave through a maze of warning barrels around the construction project. The Carpenter Road bridge, closed for replacement in September 1975 is scheduled to reopen Nov. 1, according to project engineer John Aerts.

Recreation Building is Ready: The new U-M Central Campus Recreation Building in center of photograph was recently completed and is ready for students. Attached to the Margaret Bell swimming pool building for women at right, it is available for use by both men and women. The building contains handball and basketball courts, an indoor running track and other recreational and sport facilities. Project budget for the facility was $3.9 million, according to Wilbur K. Pierpont, U-M vice president and chief financial officer. A similar, but smaller recreation building with a project budget of $1.9 million has also just been completed on the North campus and is ready for use by returning students. The building on Washtenaw is on the site of the former Women's Athletic Building which was torn down to make way for the new structure.

Land clearance as seen in the above aerial photo, is the first step toward the future Joseph F. Buhr Memorial Park in Pittsfield township. The 54-acre plot of land has been cleared of trash and brush, has been plowed and, next year, will be planted in wheat to keep the land in good condition until park and playground development begins in the distant future. The land is part of the Robert Campbell farm. The barn is clearly visible. The sire has a 964-foot frontage on Packard Rd. and extends back one-half mile. The monetary gift for the property was donated by the Buhr Machine & Tool Co. here and the R & B Tool Co. of Saline. The park is to be in the memory of the late founder of Buhr Machine & Tool Co.
