Black Arts Festival Works Discussed: Participants in the Black Arts Festival which opened last night at the Ann Arbor Community Center on N. Main St. discuss their works. From left are Debbie Miller, Robert Banks, Harryetta Cumby, Adrienne Hoard and Jan Taylor. Deanne Overstreet is in the chair. The festival, sponsored by the Community Center, also included a dance performance, a drama presentation and choral singing last night. The art exhibits will be shown until Sunday.

In an effort to promote black awareness for those in the area, the Ann Arbor Black Theater Inc. will present a play about Malcolm X, " El Hajj Malik" by N. R. Davidson Jr. Jan Taylor, Charles Loeb, and Lujuana Tucker (left to right) rehearse their parts in the production, which is scheduled for 8p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Slauson Junior High. Tickets will be available at the door.

Lena Wilson (left), a 23-year-old second-year University of Michigan law student, was crowned Miss Black Ann Arbor last night at Slauson Junior High. First runner-up was Jan Taylor, also a graduate student at the University. This is the first year that a local pageant has been held here. Miss Wilson will now compete for the Miss Black Michigan crown July 25 in Detroit. (News photo by Cecil Lockard)
