An Honor Guard Greets The Homecoming Caskets Of Pvt. Gerald Peters & First Lt. John Carver jr., August 1951 image

Flag-draped caskets bearing the bodies of two Ann Arbor servicemen arrived in the city this morning and were met by an honor guard made up of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans members. The body of Pvt. Gerald T. Peters, 17, who was killed in action in Korea Sept 3, 1950, was returned in the casket in the foreground. The casket containing the body of First Lt. John H. Carver, jr., 30 who was killed in the crash of an Air Force jet plane in the Adirondack Mountains last Tuesday is on the platform at rear. Pvt. Peters was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Peters of 607 E. Hoover Ave., and Lt. Carver was the son of Mrs. Hattie Carver of 520 Sixth St.

Surveying a part of the morning's load are Ken Behnke (left) and Bill Schlect (right). Extra help has been added by both the Railway Express Co. and the railroad to expedite deliveries.

The drum major, who is from Flint, is shown just before he boarded the train with the band for the trip to the West Coast.
