Anatomy Of A Puppet: To create an intricate, lively puppet from a block of pine, yards of string and bits of metal, leather and cord requires a talent that few possess. Meredith Bixby has such a talent. He has crafted over 100 puppets which are characters in the eight puppet shows he's produced. Here the artist-craftsman compared the puppet he's making with a proposed sketch. Bixby started college as an engineering major.

Puppet Power: Puppets fascinate both adults and children, but they have a special magnetic appeal for the latter. Here Karen and Marc Mueller, the preschool children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Mueller of Shadford Road, get acquainted with the backstage world of a puppet show. The Bixbys' puppeteers, John Miller (left) and Ray Masters, demonstrate how they manipulate the puppets.

Puppets' Couturiere Meredith Bixby's wife, Thyra, is not what you would call a "silent partner" in his puppet business. Besides helping her husband with the book work and lending her voice when sound tracks are being taped, Thyra also sews all of the puppets' costumes.
