SIXTH DEAN: Prof. Edward H. Kraus is the sixth dean in the history of the University College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, having ascended to that seat in 1933, succeeding John R. Effinger. Henry S. Frieze, acting president of the University, was the first literary college dean, serving from 1876 to 1889. Other deans were Martin L. D'Ooge, 1889-97, Richard Hudson, 1897-1907, and John O. Reed, 1908-14.
