It was an evening of treats, musical and othersiw, in West Park. The Ann ARbor Civic Band played selections ranging from 'Victor Herbert Overture' to Irving Berlin's "Songs for America' and John Philip Sousa's rousing 'Stars and Stripes Forever,' under the baton of director Charlotte Owen (above.) She's a former director of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve Band and conductor of the Children's Concert at the Aspen Music Festival. The Cobblestone dancers performed. And the Burns Park Senior Center provided lemonade, cupcakes, and ice cream. The band, now in its 53rd year, has scheduled these other summer performances: this Sunday, 1 p.m., Gallup Park; Wednesday, July 13, 8 p.m., West Park; Wednesday, July 20, 7 p.m., at the Art Fair (Graceful Arch); Wednesday, July 27, 8 p.m. West Park, preceded by a Strolling Players children's play at 7; and Wednesday, Aug. 3, 8 p.m., West Park, 50th anniversary re-dedication of the bandshell.
