Traffic Control: Ann Arbor School Superintendent Jack Elzay (left) was an interested spectator as Police Lt. Harrison Schlupe directed traffic at Stadium Blvd. and S. Main St. this morning. A large force of police was on hand to take care of traffic problems as the new Ann Arbor High School opened for its first full-day session.

Farewell To Lieutenant: Retired Traffic Lt. H. D. Schlupe holds a plaque given him yesterday by members of the Ann Arbor Police Department at a special reception held in the basement of City Hall. Lt. Schlupe retired Aug. 1 after more than 27 years with the Police Department.

Block Check: Lt. H. G. Schlupe, head of the Ann Arbor Police Department Traffic Bureau, checks the string of plastic blocks which have been laid for a crosswalk at Ann and Main Sts. The two round discs visible near the blocks are metal pieces which were used in former years to mark the cross-walk. Summer heat and heavy traffic have shifted these two discs some distance from their original line.
