Author Michael Rosenberg Discusses His New Book 'War As They Knew It: Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, and America In A Time Of Unrest'

Campus sit-ins, Vietnam War protests and the Black Panther Party: In "War As They Knew It," Michael Rosenberg perfectly captures what life was like both on and off the football fields of college campuses during the remarkable era of the 1960s - '70s. He details how both Schembechler and Hayes strived to make their football programs a model for the rest of society ???????? a counter to the counter-culture. At the same time, they struggled to cope with the shifting political landscape and the volatile atmosphere on their campuses.Michael Rosenberg, a sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press and FOXsports.com, takes us back to those unsettling times as he discusses his new book. The Art of Movement: Freerunner Levi Meeuwenberg & Co-Founders of the UM Parkour Club Present Parkour & Freerunning

Levi Meeuwenberg, a competitor on G4's "American Ninja Challenge" and "Ninja Warrior," returns to AADL, this time joined by Travis Graves and Mike Friedman, co-founders of the UM Parkour Club. Come learn more about parkour and freerunning, the exciting new disciplines that turn everyday objects in the city, into an obstacle course. Parkour is the art of moving through your environment using only your body and the surroundings to propel yourself. It can include running, jumping, climbing, even crawling, if that is the most suitable movement for the situation.Ann Arbor resident and Traverse City native Levi Meeuwenberg has been a stunt double in KSwiss and Mountain Dew commercials. He has also appeared in the pilot episode of the TV show "Chuck" and performed freerunning in Madonna's 2006 "Confessions World Tour" and her "Jump" music video.

Sports Illustrated Reporter Richard Deitsch Discusses His Experiences Covering the 2008 Olympics In Beijing

A total of 10,500 athletes took part in 302 events in 28 sports in the recent 2008 Summer Olympic games. Richard Deitsch, a UM Knight-Wallace Fellow, is special projects editor and media writer for SI.com. He has covered four Olympic Games, including Salt Lake City, Athens, Turin and Beijing. At this program, Deitsch will give his eye-witness account of the '08 games. Cosponsored by the UM Knight-Wallace Fellows Program.A resident of New York City, Richard Deitsch is a Knight-Wallace Fellow for the 2008-09 academic year at the University of Michigan, where he will explore the relevancy of the Olympics in the 21st century.

Ann Arbor's Levi Meeuwenberg Discusses His Recent Appearance on G4's American Ninja Challenge, His Trip To Japan, and His Passion for Freerunning

Levi has been a freerunner in a Mountain Dew commercial, a stunt double in a K-Swiss commercial, and performed freerunning in Madonna's 2006 "Confessions World Tour" and in her "Jump" music video. Most recently, he was chosen as one of two competitors to travel to Japan to compete on the 20th session of the famed competition show "Ninja Warrior" (aired May 18 in the U.S.). Meet Levi in person and get an inside look at the popular G4 network show, hear his account of his trip to Japan and learn about his love of freerunning.Levi was introduced to the sport/art/discipline of freerunning early in its development in the U.S. He has begun a freerunning class at his hometown gym and currently assists in running the Michigan Parkour Club in Ann Arbor.

Long Distance Swimmer Liz Elling Discusses Her July Swim Down The Huron River

Elling will be joined by Laura Rubin, Exe. Director of the Huron River Watershed Council, when they discuss Liz's upcoming July marathon swim to raise awareness about fresh water resources. Liz proved her mettle in a swim around the Leelanau Peninsula in 2001. This summer, she will take on an even bigger challenge: swimming the length of the Huron River, about 125 miles, including stops in communities along the way. Learn more about Liz's personal mission to protect our lakes, rivers and streams, and what you can do. This event will be taped for future broadcast on Community Television Network. Cosponsored by the Huron River Watershed CouncilStarting July 7 at Proud Lake, Liz will swim the 125-mile length of the Huron River, finishing at Lake Erie on July 21. The Huron River Watershed Council is the first and oldest river protection group in Michigan. Founded in 1965 as a public, non-profit organization, the Council is a coalition of Huron Valley residents, businesses and local governments established under Michigan's Local River Management Act (253 P.A. 1964). Since its formation, the Council has grown to be a respected voice for protection of the Huron River and its tributary streams, lakes wetlands and groundwater.

Detroit Tiger Legend Denny McLain and TV Personality Eli Zaret Discuss Their New Book

Denny McLain's biography allows the former All-Star pitcher to share his cautionary tale with generations of baseball fans: older ones who witnessed his downfall and younger ones who can learn from McLain's multitude of mistakes. From being the only 30-game winner in more than 70 years, to touring the country as a popular musician playing on national TV, to spending nine years in jail -- Denny McLain has lived a bizarre and remarkable life. Co-authors McLain and Zaret will make this special Library appearance to discuss McLain's career. A book signing will follow the discussion, with books available for sale at the event. This event is scheduled to be broadcast live on Community Television Network, channel 18.In 1968, McLain set the baseball world on fire by being the first pitcher to win at least 30 games since Dizzy Dean 34 years earlier. But two years later he was banned from the game for half a season, traded away to the laughing-stock Washington Senators where he entered into a never-ending battle with baseball icon Ted Williams. By 1972, he was a retired star, hustling games of golf - and his troubles were just beginning. Emmy-winning sportscaster Eli Zaret published his first book, "84 - The Last of the Great Tigers, Untold Stories from an Amazing Season" in 2003. He followed that in 2004 with "Blue Collar Blueprint - How the Pistons Constructed their Championship Formula."
