SCION OF WASHINGTON ELM REVEALED ON BEAL PROPERTY: This tree was planted beside the home of the late Junius E. Beal from a cutting of the original elm tree planted by George Washington in the nation's capital, according to an Ann Arbor forester, Walter S. Wickliffe. A new public library is scheduled to be built on the same property at E. William St. and S. Fifth Ave.

FIRST OF THE SEASON: This clump of crocuses on the south side of the Beal residence, 343 S. Fifth Ave., sprang into bloom under the warming influence of yesterday's sunny skies and 55-degree temperature. They were the season's first blossoms reported to The News, and their tidings of approaching spring were glad indeed.
