Pie doesn't taste too good in the nose but (left to right) Brent Chrite, Richard Franklin, Lisa Franklin, Steve O'Neal and Leon McEwen don't seem to mind too much, especially after seeing how amusing each other looks. The pie-eating contest was held yesterday at Northside Playground.

Denny Dyer of St. Thomas slides - but not in time - in yesterday's home opener at Northside Park. Dyer was tagged out by Wayne St. Mary catcher Pat Jenner while still three feet from the plate. Jenner was the big man at the plate for St. Mary, with a bases-loaded homer in the fourth inning. St. Mary won, 14-3.

Work was under way this morning at six locations as the city attempts to provide ice skating facilities at six major parks. City employe Stanley Ehnis, 195 Barton Dr., is shown working on the ice base at Northside Park. Similar preparations were under way at Veterans Memorial, Community, West, Allmendinger and Burns Parks. The Parks Department said skating would be available this weekend "if the weather cooperates." After the ice base is established, water will be sprinkled to smooth out the surface. Much of the work is done at night.
