H1N1 Flu Vaccination Clinic Announced

The Washtenaw County Public Health Department will offer H1N1 vaccinations to high priority individuals at a mass vaccination clinic at Manchester High School on Saturday, Dec. 5th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The high school is located at 20500 Dutch Drive, Manchester 48158.

Children and adults fitting within the following priority groups are currently eligible for H1N1 vaccination:

  • pregnant women
  • people who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months
  • health care and emergency medical services personnel with direct patient care
  • Children and adolescents 6 months through 24 years of age
  • Adults 25 to 64 years of age who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications. Conditions include: neurological disorders, chronic lung conditions (like asthma), immune disorders, cardiovascular disorders (not including high blood pressure), diabetes, lung and liver disorders, chronic aspirin therapy, and kidney disorders.

Live from CTN: City Council Primary Election Candidates Forum

Tune in to CitiTV 19 on Wednesday, July 22, 7:45 p.m., for the Ann Arbor City Council Candidate Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Area. Candidates for the 3rd and 5th ward council seats will answer questions from the League. You can submit forum questions online to the League. The primary will be held on Tuesday, August 4th. Please call the City Clerk at 734-794-6140 for more information or to check the status of your voter registration in the City.

The Washtenaw County Public Health Department has developed a web page on the Swine Flu outbreak. You'll find breaking news, info on symptoms, recommendations for treatment and much more. The CDC Swine Flu page provides a state-by-state tally of reported cases and the World Health Organization (WHO) is coordinating global information and response.

Yesterday, April 21, the World Digital Library was officially launched. A joint project of the Library of Congress and UNESCO, the project is a massive effort to provide many primary source documents like historical maps, photographs, music, etc. from many regions of the world. Looking for a sketch of one of the captives on the slave ship, the Amistad? You'll find it here. Do you need an ancient map of Sweden? A fascinating, well documented journey, the World Digital Library is an invaluable resource both for the student and the constantly curious.

Cross the Border with Michigan's New Enhanced Driver's License

Planning a trip to the Stratford Festival or the Shaw Festival? There's an alternative to the U.S. passport now required for border crossings, the Enhanced Driver's License. The EDL eliminates the need to carry multiple ID documents when returning to the U.S. by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean. The cost is $45, far less than a passport and it arrives in 2 - 3 weeks. Be sure to bring proof of a valid Social Security number and U.S. citizenship in addition to your driver's license to any of the designated Secretary of State offices.

City of Ann Arbor Town Hall Meeting

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The City of Ann Arbor's annual Town Hall Meeting will be held Tuesday, April 14, 7-9 p.m. at the Community Television Network's new facilities on S. Industrial. Mayor Hieftje and City Administrator Roger Fraser will be on hand to answer questions after the State of the City presentation. Want to do some homework before the meeting? Check out the latest 2010 and 2011 budget info online. The Town Hall Meeting will be rebroadcast on CTN Channel 16.

Voter Guides Are Here

The Michigan League of Women Voters 2008 Nonpartisan Voter Guide is now available at all AADL branches. The Guide covers all statewide elections and ballot proposals. The Guide also includes biographies and answers to questions for all candidates who responded. The League offers an online version of the Guide that includes the handy Clip & Take to Polls list. Polls open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4th. Click here for more information on voting in Michigan.
