TYPICAL CLASSROOMS: Even the classrooms in the new Abbot School are different from those in other city schools. A folding partition separates two classrooms to accommodate team teaching. Each classroom has an exit directly to the out-of-doors. Chalk and tack boards in the rooms may be moved up and down. Tack boards have a self-healing vinyl surface so that pin holes will not show.

Fashion Power. Many a local mother is using the power of fashion to lure her spirited urchins away from their summer holiday back into the classroom. Appreciating mom's fashion psychology are fifth graders Cathy Taylor (left), the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Taylor of 1416 Kuehnle, and Kimberly Kovac, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Kovac of 2794 Colony. Cathy, a student at Abbot School, finds her swingy wool kilt in turquoise, brown and white a perfect match for her short-sleeved turquoise turtleneck. Kim prefers the Victorian look for her classes at St. Thomas School. A frilly ruffled collar and cuffs accent her apple-green cotton dress with white dots.

This photograph of the exterior of the new T. C. Abbot Elementary School in the Maple Rd. - Miller Ave. area, shows the anodized aluminum fascia on the 20-classroom building. The fascia is a bright aqua color. The school, designed by Perkins & Will, a Chicago architectural firm, opened yesterday.
