Freshly ground herbs and spices are the secret ingredients in many of Mrs. James M. Wolf's Mexican dishes. Mrs. Wolf grows her own herbs and spices, dries them and grinds them in a mortar and pestle she brought back from one of her many trips to Mexico. A row of chili peppers dries along the top of her kitchen window to be ground later for her dishes. Above her spice shelf are several of her pots. Mrs. Wolf has been a potter for over six years and is currently director of the Potter's Guild. Her house on Melrose Avenue reflects the influence of old Mexico, where the family spends as much time as possible.

Marilyn Thayer Prepares Her Pottery For The Potters Guild Annual Spring Sale, June 1964 Photographer: Eck Stanger
Year:
1964
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, June 2, 1964
Caption:
ARTIST-COOK: Sunday is the big day for members of Ann Arbor's Potter's Guild...the day of their annual Spring sale. Mrs. Stuart Thayer of Sumac Lane prepares some of her pottery for the sale. Although Marilyn Thayer sells most of her work, she does save some favorite pieces for her own home and garden. This potter frequently uses her pots de creme when serving Chocolate Mocha Cream, a light dessert that is a perfect ending for her Stuffed Manicotti dinner. The Manicotti may be prepared ahead of time.
