NEW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTINGS: Work on footings and grading of the new Ann Arbor High School site on Stadium Blvd., is essentially finished with just clean-up work remaining, school officials report. Henry W. deKoning Construction Co. was contractor on the preliminary work. Concrete in foreground will form floor of a running track in the high school gymnasium wing. Footings for a shop and classroom wing extending south are visible in background. Other classrooms and school offices will be in section connecting the gymnasium and auditorium section with the shop wing.

A School 'Grows': Construction work by Henry W. deKoning Construction Co. of Ann Arbor is forging "ahead of schedule" on this $811,650 Newport-Sunset Rd. elementary school, which is slated to be completed by May, 1957. With the foundation and steel beams emplaced, exterior brick work is rapidly enclosing the structure, which is "T" -shaped and 271x358 feet. The 18-classroom school will house 540 kindergarten through eight graders. The deKoning firm is also building a similar southwest school west of the end of Coronado Dr. Steel framing on this structure is expected to be up in the next few days, with completion coming by July, 1957. This latter building is said to be a month ahead of schedule. Architect Charles W. Lane of Ann Arbor headed blueprinting of the $1,622,582 worth of new grade schools.

INSTALL ATOM SMASHER: Workers today lowered the 310-ton atom smasher core of the University's new $1,800,000, 40-million-electron-volt cyclotron into position in the partially completed $1,100,000 U-M Cyclotron Building on North Campus. Work on the cyclotron and building is being done by the Henry W. deKoning Construction Co. of Ann Arbor. When completed in 1963, it will be used for research on the nuclei of the heavier atomic elements.
