STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART - Frank Pearce, the meat cutter at Farmer Jack's on West Stadium, displays a heart-shaped Delmonico steak his supermarket is selling for $4.98 a pound. It seems to prove that hearts and flowers dining doesn't have to be done in restaurants. If you want to pop the question at home, a wide range of gastronomic delights could carry the heartfelt message. Love apple soup (made from tomatoes), hearts of palm salad, couer a la creme (a creamy French cheese dessert) could signal your intentions.

Detroit shopping center developer Richard Agree has begun work to lay a parking lot at the former Stadium Row shopping center project on W. Stadium Blvd., now renamed Boulevard Plaza. Masonry work to complete the center's partially-collapsed walls will begin soon and steel roof beams are due to go up in mid-February. City officials have set a March deadline for progress on the site, idle for four years. Agree says he'll meet the deadline to retrieve his $25,000 bond. A Farmer Jack supermarket is due to open in the center by early summer, Agree says.
