Independence Day: A tribute to the heroes of the Greek fight for independence will be given tomorrow by children of the parish schools of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, in observance of the 136th anniversary of Greek Independence Day. In Greek costume, Alex Kales of 2701 Dexter Rd. holds the Greek flag. On the table, decorated with an American and a Greek naval flag, is a picture of Patriarch Gregory V, a key figure and martyr in the struggle.

Greeks Observe Anniversary: The Rev. Lambros Vakalakis, pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, stands by the memorial exhibit symbolic of Greeks who died for their country's freedom 132 years ago. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Greeks celebrated the event yesterday with services and a program. Further services will be held Wednesday at the church and in Ypsilanti before the statue of Demetrius Ypsilanti. Picture over flag-draped "casket" is of Patriarch Gregorius V.
