Master Sgt. George J. Danneffel, non-commissioned officer in charge of the Army recruiting station in Ann Arbor, is the Army's leading recruiter in Michigan. He is shown with the trophy he received because his station led in recruiting last month among 17 competing units throughout the state. It was presented to the sergeant by Col. Walter E. Cole, head of the Michigan Recruiting district, in a special ceremony held yesterday in the Federal building in Detroit. Sg.t Danneffel, 36 years old, is a 1932 graduate of the University of Michigan and formerly lived in Benton Harbor. In the Army since 1943, he joined the 2nd Infantry Division at St. Lo, France, in July, 1944, was wounded in action, returned to duty, and went through France into Germany in the victorious advance of his organization. Sgt. Danneffel, who has headed Ann Arbor's recruiting unit since September, 1945, holds the Purple Hearth, the ETO ribbon with three battle stars, the Victory medal, the German Occupation medal and the American Theater ribbon.
