PERSONAL DEMONSTRATION: Part of the dental hygienist's function as an assistant to the busy dentist is to demonstrate for the patient exactly how the teeth should be brushed, as David Cousino learns here from Linda Lajiness. Patients are asked to bring their own toothbrushes with them when they come to the clinic, and the hygienists can thus tell from the brush's condition whether or not it has been used correctly.

X-RAY INSTRUCTION: In the radiology laboratory, hygienists learn the steps in taking X-rays of patients' teeth. Patient Susan Katz has an X-ray taken by Judy Reynolds (right) as Ann Miller (left) and Albert Richards, professor of radiology, watch. One of the greatest assets to the dentist with his crowded daily schedule is his dental hygienist's ability to take a complete X-ray without assistance.
