PREP GRID CAREER NEARING END: One of the several seniors on Ann Arbor High's unbeaten football team, lanky John Cartwright, an end who plays both offense and defense, has two more games of high school football. It took considerable perseverance on Cartwright's part to continue the grid sport after he received a serious back injury a year ago. Hours of special exercises went into his come-back effort. This fall he's scored a touchdown and had a helping hand in setting up several others.

NEARING END OF PREP GRID CAREER: Fiery Mike Rodriguez, sparkplug of Ann Arbor High's speedy backfield, will play his final scholastic football game at Jackson Friday night. Although he missed two games and parts of others because of an early-season injury, Rodriguez is third among Pioneer point-producers with five touchdowns, just one less than Bob Randall and Prenty Ware each has made.

WILL HE RAMBLE TONIGHT? Speedy Prenty Ware, Ann Arbor High's fast-moving left halfback, might gain opportunity to dazzle tonight when the Pioneers will open defense of their Five-A League crown by playing host to Lansing Sexton on Wines Field. Ware, a junior, can really move in an open field.

UNSUNG HEROES AS PIONEERS ROLL ALONG: Always in football the backs get the publicity and the linemen and defense specialists are often largely ignored. Here's a trio of unpublicized Ann Arbor High gridders who have had much to do with the Pioneers' success in football. From left to right are Center Al Jesperson, Tackle Chandler Hadley, and Center Doug Nordman. All specialize on defense.

CAN'T WAIT TO GET AT 'EM: Rough and ready Bob Weber, Ann Arbor High's hard-charging defensive guard whose dad, loquacious Wally Weber, earned football fame as a Michigan fullback great prior to acceptance of the Wolverine coaching duties he now performs, had a quick answer when his father asked him why he didn't go out for the more glamorous backfield positions instead of the line. "I'd rather be up front where I can get at 'em quicker," young Weber told his father. He'll be getting at 'em quickly again Friday night when Ann Arbor High plays Ferndale Lincoln at Ferndale.
