Ann Arbor News, May 14, 1938

SALINE MEN GET BIG TURTLE CATCH: Trapping turtles isn't very common in Washtenaw county, and capturing 10 turtles in six traps is even more rare, but that's what George Hertler of US-112, Saline township, did Wednesday. The gross weight of the catch was about 150 pounds, and the largest turtle weighed 19 pounds. Mr. Hertler obtains turtle meat and turtle soup for his restaurant, and the turtles are caught in Snake lake near Clinton. Mrs. Hertler paints the shells like those suspended from the roof in the picture. Holding some of the catch, from left to right, are: Will Schumacher, route 2, Saline, Mrs. Hertler and Mr. Hertler.
