Mrs. Arthur W. Stalker, assisted by E. E. Calkins, turned the first sod for the new First Methodist church at ground-breaking ceremonies yesterday afternoon. In the construction of the new church Mrs. Stalker is seeing realization of the hopes of her husband, the late Dr. Stalker, pastor of the church for 25 years, who died eight years ago yesterday. Dr. Charles Brashares, (at the left), the present pastor, watched as the two turned the first spade of sod. Mr. Calkins is president of the board of trustees of the church.
