NEW SWEEPER GETS A WORKOUT: Leslie G. Bird is shown putting the city's new street sweeper through an experimental run. The new vehicle gives the city three sweepers, but one of the old models has been in operation for 12 years and is nearing its retirement. The new model is not radically different from the other two but it is vastly streamlined in contrast to earlier types that Bird has used in his approximately 30 years with the public works department.
