Mack French Students are Inspired by the French Dukes Drill Team, March 1969 Photographer: Cecil Lockard

Year:
1969
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, March 5, 1969
Caption:
'French' French Dukes: Three Mack Elementary School sixth graders are shown here doing a take-off on Ann Arbor's French Dukes--the city's award-winning precision drill team. The French Duke skit, however, was done entirely in French. The Mack students, who are studying the French language, made up the French Dukes' skit and two other routines themselves, and have presented them to their classmates and also to some Eberwhite School students. French teacher Gordon E. Boettcher, who helped the students with their French dialogue, says they have been invited to perform at Eastern Michigan University. The students pictured are (from left) Paul Patterson, John Jackson and David Simmons. The "real" French Dukes marched in the inaugural parade.
