CENTURY-OLD LELAND HOME ON E. NORTH TERRITORIAL RD.: Landmark in the Northfield township area is the Leland home at 3850 E. North Territorial, residence of former Judge Emory E. Leland and now occupied by his son, C. R. Leland, and wife. White barns in the rear set off the graceful old residence. The land on which they are located was taken up from the government by Judge Leland's father, Joshua G. Leland, in 1831 and this home was built a few years later.

One of Saline's oldest landmarks is the historic Mills house at 300 W. Michigan Ave. Built in 1843 by John Haywood, one of the city's early settlers, the house is now owned by Miss Vesta Mills. The colonial-classical 10-room brick residence has been in the Mills family for 86 years. The home is situated in a grove of ancient maple and ash trees.
