IT'S "TIMBER" AT NEW SCHOOL SITE: Trees are being cut and brush cleared away at the site of the new $800,000 public elementary school in the southwest, for which the general construction contract was let last night by the Board of Education. The Henry deKoning Construction Co. of Ann Arbor won the contract with its bid for $483,582. Other contracts are to be decided on later by the board. The site is in the 42-acre Eberwhite Woods area. Actual construction is scheduled to begin within a week or 10 days. (Story on page 17)

EBERWHITE SCHOOL TAKES SHAPE: Basement walls of the new Eberwhite Elementary School have been poured and workmen are busy now erecting the first story. Ann Arbor residents who drive out to the construction site to watch the building take shape can get a clear idea of the building's floor plan. The grading of the playground area is substantially complete and with a little imagination, viewers can visualize the school area as it will appear. Scheduled completion date for the new school is September.

Progress Report On Eberwhite School: The southwest section of the new Eberwhite elementary school is shown in this picture. The exterior of the building is completed, except for a part of the roof over the auditorium. The school will not be ready in early November as planned, however, because the delay in heating plant installation is holding up the beginning of painting.

Germans Visit New Ann Arbor School: Miss Ethel Hedrick (right), principal of the new Eberwhite School, goes through some of school's library books with four German civic leaders from the Bavarian town of Straubing. They are members of a party visiting this country under a State Department project to acquaint German civic groups with American democracy at the local level. Left to right, they are: Franz Prein, a German policeman; Mis Hedy Hartig, a secretary; Rudolph Loster, manager of a furniture factory; and Wolfgang Noack, manager of a dairy.
