IT'S A FIVE-YEAR-OLD'S FAIRYLAND: At least it seems that way to this class of kindergartners in their first day of school and their first real experience in community playing and learning. There were some tears from both children and their parents at first, but these dried up quickly when the adults had left and the toys and playthings were clearly sighted. This is a kindergarten classroom in Tappan Junior High School, under the jurisdiction of Eberbach School Principal Helen Pratt.

Her audience, who recited the rhyme in unison later, took turns saying familiar poems. One of the first things they learned was to raise their hands when they wanted to answer.

FIRST OF MANY, MANY ROLL-CALLS: Linda Lou Crandall, upper left, comes forward with a grin as her name is called in the first roll-call experience for the hundreds of Ann Arbor children who entered Kindergarten for the first time this fall. In this class, taught by Miss Jeanne Wright, pupils responded by joining a circle on the floor around the piano. First question asked by the teacher was "What day of the week is this?" Nobody knew; but everyone agreed it was Thursday after Miss Wright suggested it.
