Ron Amick, left, Al Sass and teacher Ron Lutz in the background, pour molten aluminum into styrofoam molds buried in wet sand. Lutz said the heat of the aluminum disintegrates the styrofoam, creating a gas. The aluminum hardens in the shape the styrofoam was. Some 26 students at Huron High School are enrolled in the second semester ceramics and sculpture class. In addition to sand casting with aluminum, students have also worked with bronze casting. Lutz says students use materials donated by the community.
