PIONEER HARRIERS ARE CHAMPS OF THE FIVE-A LEAGUE: Glen Shankland and Fred Nowland will serve as co-captains for the Ann Arbor High cross-country team next year, Coach Tim Ryan has announced following an election meeting. Shankland, second from the left in the above picture, is a repeater at the captain's post, having guided the Pioneer harriers in the season just past which saw them annex the Five-A league crown for the second successive year and wind up with second place in the annual state meet which was won by Flint Central. The Ann Arbor runners split event in their dual season this year, defeating Lansing Eastern and Jackson, while losing to Flint Central and the Michigan State Normal College freshman. Shown in the above picture, from left to right, are Wayne Larmee, Shankland, Bob Lauten (head just showing), Fred Nowland, Bob Andros, Bill Moss (immediately behind Jim Mitchell), Giles Thielk, Bob Hetto, Fred German, Bob Whiteman and Bob Bliss. Student Managers Elton Zeeb and Edward Zahn are not in the picture. Squad members who formed the seven-man team that won the league title are Larmee, Shankland, Nowland, Mitchell, Thielk, Hatto and German.
