The Rough Stage: Now in the rough, raw building stage - that describes Westaire subdivision, now teeming with construction activity in the city's northwest area. This is S. Circle Dr., a new street which starts at Miller Ave. west of Arbor Heights subdvision and curves past Haisley School to Maple Rd. That's Haisley School in the background. There are a part of 68 homes being built by the Prospect Hill Construction Co.

EXPANSION TO THE WEST: Graveled Maple Rd. (running diagonally across picture) may become a city street in the not-too-distant future. Growth to date can be seen in this Ann Arbor News aerial photograph. Home Realty Co.'s 100-home Arbor Heights subdivision No. 2 (at upper left) is under construction Fritz School to right of Maple Rd. (near center of picture) has already been taken into the city school district (June, 1949). The Ann Arbor Board of Education anticipating continued growth bought a ten-acre site last June for a proposed 18-20 room elementary school. The site includes open fields (left edge of picture) and part of wooded area. The fairgrounds (at upper right) may be a community recreation center if City Council plans to buy it are carried out.

Moving farther west of Miller Ave. more subdivisions come into range, as viewed in the bottom aerial. The roads being constructed (center) are in Martin Acres subdivision, scheduled to have more than 100 homes when completed. Five houses have been started there. Miller ave. is seen at an angle cutting across the lower left corner of the picture. At the extreme left center (fronting Miller Ave.) are completed homes in Arbor Heights subdivision. Bruce and Duncan Streets enter Miller Ave. at left. Note ponds at upper right.
