The 8-day Festival of Lights commemorates a Jewish victory 2,000 years ago. After retaking the temple in Jerusalem, the Jews found only enough oil to light the eternal flame for a day, but saw it miraculously last for 8 days.

The lighting of the menorah symbolizes the triumph of freedom over oppression, spirit over matter and light over darkness.
