Contact Point. Eastern Michigan's Ed McLaughlin connects a single to right field, one of his three hits in four at-bats in the opener of yesterday's EMU-Michigan State doubleheader at Ypsilanti. McLaughlin later scored in the inning, the eighth, as the Hurons narrowed Michigan State's lead to 6-3. The Spartans, however, triumphed 7-4 to cast a dampener on Dedication day activities celebrating the new 2200-seat EMU baseball stadium.

Trenton catcher Mike Hoagland (5) watches the RBI single go into the outfield while pitcher Jim Grace races in to back up the receiver. Two runs scored. The Pioneers went on to score a 6-1 victory.
