Her 'First Banner' A Marian banner has been constructed for St. Mary's Catholic Student Chapel by artist Mrs. Virginia Irvin. "This was my first banner," says Mrs. Irvin, who is a miniaturist. Everything is made from felt and placed on a burlap backing. The gold paper Alpha-Omega symbol may be replaced by gold cloth, says Mrs. Irvin. The Latin wording is taken from an old manuscript and is a praise to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mrs. Irvin, who is the mother of Fr. Charles E. Irvin, chaplain at St. Mary's, lives at 619 E. University. She is the widow of U-M Prof. Charles E. Irvin. She says she made the banner for St. Mary's Golden Jubilee, a celebration in connection with the chapel's 50th anniversary.
