Muscular Sculptor , May 1978 Photographer: Larry E. Wright
Year:
1978
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, May 17, 1978
Caption:
Sculptor David Heberling (left)does not even seem to be straining as he apparently sing-handedly eases his massive 18-foot-tall creation into place in the "urban sculpture park" at Fourth Avenue and Catherine. Actually, a giant crane is doing all the heavy work (note the straps at the top). The work, made of steel and weighing 3,500 to 4,000 pounds, represents a portal or gate. Pedestrians will walk between it two legs. An official unveiling is scheduled for noon Saturday. The $4,000 work was paid for by a Michigan Arts Council grant. The plaza, planned by Ann Arbor Tomorrow, was completed with workers unemployed under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act.
