CITY BANS THIS: Parking or riding bicycles on various sidewalks in the State T. area business section has been banned by a resolution passed last week by the City Council. The resolution was approved under terms of an ordinance. These bikes shown are on the west side of S. State St. near E. William St., part of the area covered by the prohibitions. Police have the power to issue tickets, to padlock bikes and to remove them if necessary.

BIKE RACKS SPARSELY USED: Many spaces in a U-M bike rack near the State St. area business section went unused Saturday while at the same time bikes were on the sidewalks of the business section. A News photographer who took these pictures Saturday counted 18 unused spaces in the rack. The City Council at its meeting last Monday passed a resolution prohibiting riding or parking of bicycles on various sidewalks in the State St. business section to alleviate the type of congestion on the busy sidewalks illustrated by the other two pictures here.

Bee-Cause It's Interesting ~ They may have been a little late for school, but there was no pulling these Eberwhite School students away as they watched a city crew remove a bees' nest high in an elm tree on Crest Avenue. The tree is scheduled to be cut down. (Ann Arbor News photos by Jack Stubbs).
