COMMENCEMENT THRONG JAMES FIELD HOUSE: Nearly 3,000 University graduates and their guests filled Yost Field House to capacity Saturday evening for the annual commencement exercises. This photograph, taken just after the graduating class had assembled, shows the degree recipients standing at attention on the floor of the building. As right is the platform where the faculty members and University officials administered commencement rites. Families and friends of the graduates fill the bleachers and balconies around the rim of the Field House. Rain forced the holding of the exercises indoors instead of on Ferry Field.

CLASS OF '42 IS GRADUATED: University of Michigan granted diplomas to 1,961 seniors Saturday in Yost field house. The scene was photographed as Rev. H. O. Yoder of Trinity Lutheran church spoke the invocation to Michigan's first war class in this generation. The first two rows were occupied by ROTC officers who were given the oath of allegiance by Pres. Alexander G. Ruthven as they became second lieutenants in the reserve corps.
