GLASS POULTRY HOUSE: This glass block poultry house on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pryce on Huron River Dr., five miles east of Ann Arbor, represents a development in the construction of chicken homes with an eye to increasing egg production. The lights are turned on at 5 a.m., and the glass walls admit most of the natural light during the day without being transparent. The Pryce's 200 White Leghorns have jumped their production from two dozen eggs a day to six dozen in three weeks in their new home.

BIRTHPLACE OF ONE MILLION CHICKS A YEAR: In this storage-like room at the Klager Hatcheries in Bridgewater 1,000,000 chicks are hatched yearly to start lives that will end exactly 77 days later. At all times there are 52,000 eggs stored in the compartments of this vault in various stages of incubation. Temperature is constant at 99 degrees and humidity at 89. At the rear is Luther C. Klager, owner, and, in front, Helen Welch, employe.

FLOCK OF 5,000: This flock of pullets, owned by Klager Hatcheries of Bridgewater, is being kept at the home of Burt Hess on US-112 just over the Washtenaw county line in Lenawee county. Klager rents this house, along with nine others throughout the state. When these pullets are 16 weeks old, they will be delivered to buyers.
