UNITY MARCH: About 350 people observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Sunday with a Unity March sponsored by the Second Baptist Church. Marchers, warmly bundled up for the crisp January temperatures, started at the Washtenaw County Court building, and in the top picture, were walking along Main Street, near Miller. The march continued along Miller, in the bottom picture, and ended at the church, at 850 Red Oak, in the picture at left. A memorial and rededication service was held at the church, with the theme of the service being "Toward Fulfilling the Dream."

SHARING KING'S DREAM - An estimated 300 to 500 persons, mostly students and teachers from the Ann Arbor Public Schools, gathered at Liberty Plaza Thursday afternoon for a Unity Parade commemorating the birthday of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The parade, sponsored by the city's public schools, went west on Liberty Street, then turned south on Main Street and continued to Pioneer High School. Ann Arbor students were given the afternoon off in honor of King's birthday.

A courtyard display and an assembly yesterday at Ann Arbor's Martin Luther King School commemorated the birth of the assassinated civil rights leader for whom the school is named. Dr. King was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Ga., and slain April 4, 1969, in Memphis, Tenn. The figure at left represents Dr. King and the others his followers. Students posed for the latter last year. Depicted are two brothers and a sister of three of those who posed. From left are Kenneth Caldwell, Claudia Hampton and Brian Taylor.
