She graduated from Ann Arbor High School, where she met her future husband, James Turner. She remembers moving into their first apartment in Pittsfield Village as a result of fair housing protests in Ann Arbor in the 1960s. Turner has two master’s degrees and she taught English at Huron High School for 30 years. Dolores and James celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September 2021.

A stunned driving instructor watched her student turn right onto E. Stadium from Washtenaw this morning and run smack into a sign on the corner. "Slow up, slow up," Jean Kassell, a teacher for six months at the Academy Driving School in Detroit, told the student, who had been out driving for 15 minutes. But not even the instructor’s own steering wheel and brake could stop the accident. Mrs. Kassell sent the student home in a taxicab and waited for a wrecking crew to...uh, remove the car. "This is not good advertising," she said.

Another Option - Pioneer driver education teacher Stanley Szymanski assists student Debbie East at a simulator. This is an option, along with driving range training, which allows school districts to cut the number of required on-the-street driving hours in driver education classes. The simulator, with all the devices of areal driver's seat, has students react to filmed traffic situations.
