This eight-week-old part skye terrier-part cocker spaniel looks somewhat skeptical of Herbert Gay, humane officer at the Washtenaw County Humane Society shelter, who donned the Santa Claus garb in keeping with the Yule season. But he as much as told us he'd like to be adopted out to a family in this as a Christmas present for some child or children. There are 35 puppies at the shelter, 3113 Cherry Hill Rd., eligible for adoption, Gay reports.

Rendering a real service to animals are these four members of the Washtenaw County Be Kind To Animals Club. Saturday they presented a $100 check to Herbert L. Gay (right), Humane Society officer, to help pay for the operating table and some of the equipment in the cabinet now installed in the animal shelter at 3113 Cherry Hill Rd. Gay and his assistant, Charles E. Wright, made the table from an old barber chair and a piece of stainless steel. Club members (standing left to right) are Kent Marquis, Wendy Dobson and Alison Myers. Hope Forsythe is seated on the table and holding a dog.

William Parker, shelter manager at the Washtenaw County Humane Society, poses with a four-year-old Mexican burro named Eli which is up for adoption. The burro belonged to an area physician who used him to keep yard grass trimmed. When Eli out-lived his usefulness, the society was called. Parker says that he has had several inquiries- but no takers yet. It may suit "the man who has everything."
