At right, a BAM protester holds up a sign with a picture of the late Malcolm X and bearing the slogan 'By any means necessary,' referring to a list of 11 demands. BAM leaders said they are 'at war' with the U-M and pledged to shut it down unless steps are taken to improve conditions for black students.
