Sheriff's Department Cpl. David B. Severance holds a mother cat as she stretches a paw toward her young, scattered around their temporary home - a cardboard box. The parent cat and her five young ones were found in the box which had been placed in the front seat of a car parked in the 200 block of N. Main last night. The startled owner of the car brought the family to the County Jail and asked that the animals be cared for. Deputies took the cats to the Washtenaw County's Humane Society animal shelter on Cherry Hill Rd. where they will be put up for adoption later this week.

One of the interesting but lesser known buildings in Ann Arbor for many years was the Chapel of St. Francis built by the late Dr. Inez R. Wisdom (shown above in 1948), in the garden of her home at 2301 Packard. Dr. Wisdom, who died in 1965 at the age of 80, donated the chapel and the land for the new parish of St. Clare of Assisi Episcopal Church, and the church was built adjoining the chapel. The chapel was patterned after those Dr. Wisdom had seen abroad.

This is no house cat. It's a genuine wildcat, about three months old, captured by a Berrien county farmer and shipped by the State Conservation Department to the University. The capture caused quite a buzz in conservation circles at first, because wildcats are unknown as far south as Berrien county. But the mystery was cleared up when another Berrien resident reported his "pet" wildcat, brought back from a western trip, was lost. He had neglected to take out a permit to keep the animal in captivity, however, so it looks as if the wildcat will find a permanent home in the University's zoo. He looks happy enough here with a mouse for lunch.
