Brownies With A Purpose: These 17 Brownies from Troop 32, East Ann Arbor, yesterday were on a cook-out at Camp Hilltop, the Girl Scout day camp, where they were being instructed by a leader and assistants on such outdoor skills as building a fire and cooking. Such events teach the children how to work and play and succeed in a group setting, besides being helpful at home and elsewhere.

Icy Outing: In weather too cold for comfortable ice fishing, a group of 25 senior Girl Scouts from Ann Arbor embarked this weekend on their annual summer camp cleanup at Hilltop Lodge. Shown setting up a tent in near-zero temperatures are from left to right, Donna Noyes, Connie Bowler and Judy Snider. Enjoying the relative comfort of the summer lodge interior [this photo], are Anandi Teeuw (seated), Carol Johnston and Dian Crist. They also swept and vaccuumed the lodge.

Ah, Summer (?) - It's summer, right? Warm weather. Sunshine. Balmy breezes rustling through the trees at Hilltop Girl Scout camp, above. Wrong. But the lousy weather doesn't seem to dampen the fun these Brownie Scouts are having this week at the camp. Perched in the trees are, left to right on the lower branch, Sarah Kersey, Lise Jozwick and Janet Cornwell. On the higher branch, left to right, are Amy Moeller, Leslie Gangwere, Suzie Alexander, Kelly Farrand and Ellen Kennard. They are flanked by junior scouts Margaret Maly, left, and Lisa Zrull.

Christmas In July - Fifty members of Hilltop Girl Scout Camp pretend that it is Christmas in July, in their hopes that the weather would get cooler. Santa Claus (director Mrs. James Lombard) presents gifts to the campers at one session of the 8-day program. Girls are hiking, fishing, cooking tie-dying, baking and learning arts and crafts at the camp.
