GENERATE OWN BREEZE: It looks like hot work, but these youngsters at least are stirring up a breeze as they give an Island Park merry-go-round a workout. City parks are getting plenty of use during the current record-breaking heat wave which, incidentally, caught the Park Department with its wading pools dry.

A Penny Saved Is A Playground Earned - In this case, thousands of pennies are spread out in the shape of an oak tree, the Eberwhite Elementary School logo, on the gym floor of the school Saturday as parents, students and friends of the school donated the ubiquitous coins to build a new playground. Spreading out the pennies in the design (left) are Beth Clifford, Mary McGuinness and Erin Dickerhoof, while Student Council President Matt Clifford (above) [this photo] uses a vacuum to scoop up the pennies as Beth Clifford and Jesse Thomas help. The even was organized by the Eberwhite School Parent-Teacher Organization.
