VISITING DIGNITARIES: City officials yesterday welcomed 15 representatives of the new African nation of Burundi to Ypsilanti. Welcoming the dignitaries are (from the left) City Manager W. Robert Semple, Councilwoman Susan H. Sayre, Councilman John H. Burton and Mayor Vincent H. Buck. The visitors, on a familiarization tour sponsored by the U. S. Agency for International Development, toured the city and Eastern Michigan University campus. They had lunch at McKenny Hall with city and EMU officials. Ypsilanti was one of several midwest cities designated for visits.

Standing before a map of the city he helped protect for 37 years, Ypsilanti Fire Chief Gerald Kelly receives a plaque from Mayor Vincent H. Buck. Kelly was honored at a reception yesterday at the Ypsilanti City Hall, also receiving awards and gifts from fellow employes and the Ypsilanti Area Chamber of Commerce. The city's Civil Service Commission has recommended that Fire Captain Russell M. Forsyth succeed Kelly.
