Twelve former varsity athletes from the Ann Arbor High football team of 1965 which has a 7-1 record and was rated sixth in the state by AP, recently attended a reunion: (front row) Ed Oxley, Robin Brier, Tom Knight, George Metzner, Dale Leslie, Jim Lutz; (back row) Jamie Buhr, Bill Fraumann, Tim Wadhams, Eugene Smith, Tom Weinmann, Steve Towery. Others from the team who were at the reunion were Dave Dean, Jim Dick, Mark Carrow, Ken Westerman, Doug Kline, Tom Wilkins, and Fred Smith.

There were once seven full-line bakeries in Ann Arbor. Now Quality Bakery on Main Street is the only one left. Gene Horning, 71, has worked at Quality and its predecessors since 1926. As at left, he still ties on his apron each day before dawn, then, below [this photo] joins Jim Lutz at the bread bench. Dutch crust, whole wheat and french every day. Cracked wheat three times a week. Oatmeal bread on Thursdays.

Lutz and her husband Burt inherited the store's operation from relative in 1974. Many of the bakery's employees have been there for decades. Reana Trapp, above, has been on the staff for 24 years.
