Japanese Royalty Visiting Phoenix Lab: Members of the Japanese royal family visited the University of Michigan's Phoenix Laboratory today and viewed research in peaceful uses of atomic energy. William Kern (left), acting director of the laboratory, greeted the royal family. The family at Kern's left, consists of Princess Yuriko, her husband, Prince Takahito Mikasa, brother of Japanese Emperor Hirohito, and their 18-year-old daughter, Yasuko. Anne Hatcher (far right), daughter of U-M President Harlan Hatcher, acted as the group's hostess during the morning's tour.
