Member of the Polar Bear Club gather once a year in the last week of February for a dip in the icy waters of Whitmore Lake. Why? "Because we like it," they told The News photographer. In the water are Bob Kruzel, Mike Wilbur, Kurt Mori and Bob Knoedler, all of Whitmore Lake and all avid skiers who said polar swimming was just another kind of winter fun.

Her formula for pleasing guests is to provide an enjoyable atmosphere and excellently prepared food. Because of limited space and equipment, she serves her guests buffet style meals. Whitmore Lake teen-agers are making ready the grounds of Catholic Social Services' new branch office, 9561 N. Main, for an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow. The youth and adult volunteers have repaired, painted and furnished the new Whitmore Lake branch office which will be staffed by two full-time case workers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Since June 1 they have extended the United Fund agency's counseling services to nearly 150 families. The youngsters above, from left, are Sherri Greenwood, Kitty Pettigrew, Mary Ann McGrath, Pamela Riskey, Rene Stevenson, Beth Kidder and Scott Stevenson.
