Something of a local institution, although not always a bar, the building at the corner of West Stadium Boulevard and West Liberty Street [this photo] once housed a grocery store and auto service station, below. But today it's a stopping place for old and young alike, especially in summertime when a thirsty softball crowd livens up the atmosphere.

Smashed - Splintered walls are all that is left of the Stadium Tavern, an old-time workers' bar where beer and shots of whiskey were the favored drinks. Citizens Trust plans to construct a branch on the site. A few history buffs and ex-patrons were on hand to watch Ron Meyers and his crane turn the tavern into rubble over the weekend.
