REPORTER OUTFITTED FOR RIDE: Although News Reporter Dick Kerr enjoyed a jet ride and inspection of the 472nd Air Force Reserve squadron at Willow Run recently, he's convinced now that AF planes and pilots' uniforms are designed with very short, thin men in mind. 'JUST LIKE A FOOTBALL HELMET': A borrowed crash helmet and oxygen mask are adjusted for a snug fit before "going up." AIRMAN INSPECTS PLANE: Lt. Louis G. Marlow, one of the permanent Air Force detachment stationed at the new 472nd base, overlooks nothing as he checks this "T-bird" jet preparatory to taking off. The pilot lives with his family at 1292 Shirley St. in nearby Ypsilanti township. Reserve airmen - the "weekend warriors" of the skyways - fly this type of training plane and F-80 fighter-bombers at the Willow Run field.
