HEAVENWARD LIFT: Down-to-earth considerations of safety and cost prompted Pastor Eldon E. Weatherly to turn to the heavens for assistance in placing a new 300-pound wooden spire atop the Bethesda Bible Church, on Lowell St. just off Forest in Ypsilanti, Saturday. The spire was raised from a nearby field by helicopter at 11:45 a.m. and placed, after once slipping off, on its base in about 15 minutes. The above photograph was taken as a parishioner (behind spire) guided it into position. The Rev. Weatherly then climbed the steeple and held the spire against a brisk breeze until it was bolted down from inside. Coffee was then served workers and spectators.
